What does Shagya smell like?
Like most Parfums de Marly creations, Shagya is named after a horse breed (here an Arabian-type horse prized for endurance) a nod to the equestrian festivities at the Château de Marly under Louis XV. The scent itself is all about tension. The opening is tangy: sharp lime, bergamot and pink pepper for an almost aromatic start. The heart introduces a surprisingly tame oud, more woody than animalic, straightened by cedar and made faintly rosy and minty by geranium. The drydown is dry and elegant: earthy vetiver, smoky guaiac, dusty papyrus and musk. It suggests dark wood shot through with light, an approachable oud for those wary of the note.
When to wear it
Between seasons, at the office or in the evening; it suits anyone wanting to try oud in a fresh, polished form.
