The story of Prada

Mario Prada and his brother opened a shop for leather goods and luxury travel items in Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in 1913. His granddaughter Miuccia Prada took over the company in the late 1970s and transformed it: the black nylon bag, ready-to-wear shows, the launch of Miu Miu. Fragrance arrived in the 2000s and stood out for its sober, cerebral aesthetic. Daniela Andrier became a key signature, notably with Infusion d'Iris (2007), Candy (2011) and L'Homme (2016). The Luna Rossa line, launched in 2012, takes its name from the yacht the group entered in the America's Cup, and was followed by Luna Rossa Carbon in 2017. After a long collaboration with Puig, the fragrance licence moved to L'Oréal in the early 2020s. In 2025 the Prada group acquired Versace, further expanding its portfolio of Italian brands.

An olfactory signature

Iris is Prada's signature material: powdery and luminous in Infusion d'Iris, with orange blossom, incense and benzoin; paired with neroli, cardamom and amber in L'Homme. Candy turns benzoin gourmand, with caramel, honey and musk. Luna Rossa and Luna Rossa Carbon explore a lavender-led masculine freshness backed by ambroxan and patchouli, with a metallic note in Carbon. Throughout runs a slightly austere cleanness that never shouts. It is perfume as understatement, polished and precise.

Which Prada perfume to choose?

For an elegant, clean iris, choose Infusion d'Iris for women and L'Homme for men, both perfect for the office. Candy is for fans of caramel-benzoin gourmands, cosy and warm. For a modern masculine freshness, Luna Rossa plays lavender and mint, while Luna Rossa Carbon is a more mineral, metallic and ambery take that is very versatile.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Prada fragrance for men?

L'Homme, launched in 2016, is often praised for its elegance: iris, neroli and cardamom over a heart of amber and patchouli, then sandalwood, musk and cedar. Luna Rossa Carbon, fresher and more mineral, with lavender and metallic notes over ambroxan, is the house's other big masculine.

What does Prada Candy smell like?

Prada Candy is a gourmand oriental built on caramel and benzoin. Caramel and musk open onto a heart of benzoin and honey, before a base of vanilla and powdery musk. The effect is warm and soft, yet more sophisticated than plain confectionery thanks to the benzoin resin.

Why is iris so present at Prada?

Iris suits Prada's aesthetic: powdery, cool and sophisticated, it suggests quiet luxury rather than display. Infusion d'Iris made it a signature in 2007, and L'Homme carried it over to men in 2016, pairing it with neroli and amber in a clean, soapy interpretation.
