What does Tabac Blond smell like?
Created by Ernest Daltroff for Caron in 1919, Tabac Blond is one of the earliest leather scents aimed at women, at a moment when they were claiming the cigarette along with new freedoms. The opening is surprisingly bright, lemon and bergamot shot through with galbanum's green bitterness. The heart soon settles on a peppery, almost clove-like carnation, rounded by ylang-ylang and powdered by iris. The base reveals the true signature: a supple, blond leather, never harsh, resting on smoky vetiver and a vanilla that suggests cured tobacco leaf more than pastry. It has the patina of an old leather bag found in a scented wardrobe.
When to wear it
Cold-weather evenings and special occasions; it appeals to lovers of historic leathers and psychologically complex perfumes, whatever their gender.
