The story of Nishane
Mert Güzel and Murat Katran founded Nishane in 2012 with the ambition of building a Turkish perfume house that could hold its own on the international niche scene. The name evokes, in Turkish, a mark or distinctive sign. From the outset the house chose to offer mostly extraits de parfum, a high concentration that sets it apart from many brands. Its creations often draw on Turkish history and culture. Hacivat, in 2017, takes its name from a character in the traditional Karagöz shadow theatre and quickly became one of the most talked-about niche fragrances of its generation. Ani, in 2019, refers to a ruined medieval city in eastern Anatolia and explores a warmer, vanilla-rich register. Nishane is now distributed in many countries and has helped put Turkey on the map of contemporary niche perfumery.
An olfactory signature
Nishane loves vivid contrasts and high concentrations. Hacivat pairs pineapple, grapefruit and bergamot with a heart of cedar, patchouli and jasmine, then a base of oakmoss and woods: a modern fruity chypre, bright and woody. Ani blends lemon, ginger and cardamom with lavender, patchouli and rose, before a musky base of vanilla, sandalwood and cedar. Whether dazzling freshness or warm spice, the house always delivers serious staying power and a trail that is hard to miss.
Which Nishane perfume to choose?
For a fresh, fruity, woody scent that is versatile and very long-lasting, Hacivat is the ideal introduction: its pineapple and oakmoss suit spring and summer. Ani is for lovers of warm spice and vanilla, perfect for autumn and winter. Both are unisex and concentrated as extraits, so one or two sprays are more than enough.
