Released in 2007 in Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria collection, devoted to nature-inspired fresh scents, Mandarine Basilic has become one of its pillars. The opening is bright and juicy: sweet clementine, orange blossom and slightly bitter green tea, like fruit squeezed by hand. Mandarin meets green, peppery, faintly aniseed basil at the heart, with peony softening the whole. Sandalwood and amber add a discreet, sunny warmth to the base, like skin warmed by the sun. It evokes a Mediterranean orchard, a picnic in the shade, a cheerful freshness. A simple but very accomplished aromatic citrus.
