What does Philosykos smell like?
Created in 1996 by Olivia Giacobetti for Diptyque, Philosykos, whose name means friend of the fig tree in Greek, helped make the fig one of niche perfumery’s great themes. Rather than the fruit alone, it renders the entire tree. The opening pairs green fig leaf, slightly milky and bitter, with ripe, juicy, sweet fig. Green notes reinforce the sappy effect at the heart, while a touch of coconut adds a milky texture recalling the white sap that beads from a snapped branch. Fig wood, woody notes and cedar bring a sun-baked dryness to the base. Picture a nap in the shade of a Mediterranean tree on a summer afternoon.
